Submission Guidelines

General Information

Abstract Submission for CSPB annual meeting in 2020 will begin the 1st Week of February 2020.

CSPB 2020 welcomes the submission of original research in all areas of plant science either as oral or poster presentations. Meeting organizers will determine the abstracts that will be part of the speaker program, and we will do our best to include all submitted oral presentations in the speaker program. Abstracts not selected for an oral presentation will be guaranteed allocation in the poster session. The deadline for abstracts to be considered for the speaker program is Friday, April 17, 2020. Confirmation of inclusion in the speaker program will be sent to the corresponding author by Monday, May 18, 2020.

The corresponding author will be sent a notification of receipt of abstract.

Submission Guidelines for Abstract

Requirements: Multiple abstracts can be submitted by the same corresponding author. All abstracts must be submitted in English with accurate grammar and spelling suitable for publication.

Proofreading: Please proofread abstract submissions carefully since edits will not be made by the CSPB organizing committee. Abstracts will be published verbatim using the text and information provided during abstract submission. The word limit for the abstract is 250 words, not including the title and authors.

Withdrawals: Requests to withdraw an abstract must be sent to CSPB by e-mail at cspb2020@gmail.com by May 18, 2020. All accepted abstracts will be published unless the abstract is officially withdrawn by this date.

Program Booklet: Abstracts will be listed in the CSPB 2020 Program Booklet. Program booklet will be available only on the website.

Abstract Categories

Authors must select one theme when submitting an abstract. Submit your abstract in the theme that most closely matches the research, even if you believe it does not fit precisely into one theme/category. Each abstract will be reviewed, and themes may be adjusted accordingly to better group submissions for the speaker and poster programs. The topic categories provided during the submission process are shown below.

Concurrent Session themes:

  • Abiotic stress
  • Biotic interactions
  • Biochemistry and metabolism
  • Physiology and nutrition
  • Cell biology
  • Development and sexual reproduction
  • Molecular biology
  • Genomics and systems biology
  • Hormones and signaling
  • Climate change, ecology and evolution
  • Plants and human health
  • Technological innovations

Presentation Types

Oral and Poster Presentation

Research findings will be presented in three ways.

  • Oral Presentations: Concurrent sessions will be occurring on Tuesday June 16, and Wednesday June 17 and Thursday June 18. Normally 1.5 hours long, these sessions feature the presentation of research organized around a common theme.
  • Poster Presentations: CSPB 2020 will feature traditional poster sessions to be exhibited during the meeting. Poster presentations offer attendees the ideal opportunity to present their research and learn more about the science achieved by other researchers throughout the meeting.
  • Lightning Poster Flash Sessions: This format will feature flash talks by selected speakers for up to 3 minutes (and 3 slides!) to highlight major findings and other noteworthy or interesting details. After the flash talks, presenters will stand by their poster for dialogue with CSPB 2020 attendees.

Plenary Sessions

Plenary speakers will present for 40 min with an additional 5 min for questions. These plenary sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

Concurrent Sessions

Oral presentations will occur in concurrent sessions. Each presenter has a duration of 15 min (12-min talk + 3 min question period).

Poster Presentations including Setup

Each poster board stand is 8 ft by 4 ft, and it will accommodate 2 posters on each side. A poster board area of 4 ft by 4 ft is provided for each poster, and the poster can be positioned in either a landscape (preferred) or portrait orientation. The conference organizers will also provide pushpins for each poster. Landscape orientation is preferred for two reasons: (1) more people can read the poster at one time; and (2) the poster will be higher off the floor.

Presenters must use the numbered position on the display board that corresponds to the number in the scientific program as backing for the poster.
